Our History
The Founder and President of Safe Haven, John Sagoe, conceived the vision for Safe Haven one night in 1993, when he had a dream, where he found himself on a playground in Ghana surrounded by many happy children. The following night, he had the same dream again which led him to commit himself to helping poor and underprivileged children. To start with John began to visit and support children’s homes by bringing food and providing them financially every time he travelled to Ghana.
Over several years, the vision developed and matured into a strategy to change lives in Ghana; first and foremost the lives of those who cannot defend themselves, children. After much planning and strategizing, Safe Haven Foster Home in Adenta, Ghana opened its doors to welcome 15 children ranging from the ages of 2 -12 years randomly chosen from the government orphanage. These children were facing different societal challenges ranging from abuse, abandonment and poor health.
